The University of Louisville diving team will compete in the BIG EAST Diving Championships on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh at Trees Pool from Feb. 10-12. The diving events will kick off the combined Swimming and Diving Championship, as the swimming events will take place in Pittsburgh Feb. 15-18.
On the women's side, junior Hannah Gadd returns for the Cardinals as the reigning two-time BIG EAST Most Outstanding Diver. Not only did Gadd finish first in the 1-meter competition and second in 3-meter competition at last year's championships, she also competed at the NCAA championships where she finished 25th in the nation on the 1-meter springboard. Gadd looks to defend her title on 1-meter and capture the title on 3-meter this year. Also competing for the Cards will be junior Lindsey Stephens. Stephens finished 5th in the 3-meter competition, which was her highest finish at the BIG EAST Championships as a Cardinal, and 9th in the 1-meter competition. Freshman Emily Stalmack will be joining the upperclassmen as the third diver and looks to place well in her first BIG EAST Championships.
On the men's side, Korey Schrock is the only returner from last year's BIG EAST diving squad. Schrock finished 15th in the 3-meter competition and 14th in the 1-meter competition at last year's championships. Joining Schrock will be junior transfer Nikolas Sachs and freshman Matt Ryan. Sachs has competed the past two years at the SEC Championships with his highest finish coming on both boards at 17th. Ryan was named a high school All-American and looks to contribute for the Cardinal men at the BIG EAST Championships.
Leading the Cardinals is Head Diving coach Mike Zehnder. Zehnder is the reigning two-time Women's BIG EAST Coach of the Year.
