
Diving Places Three in Top Eight at BIG EAST Championship

University of Louisville diver Hannah Gadd was the top Cardinal finisher in the second day of the BIG EAST Diving Championship with a third place finish and a score of 298.05 on the 3-meter springboard. Teammate Lindsey Stephens placed fourth with a score of 282.50 and Emily Stalmack moved up into fifth with a score of 263.70 Saturday night at the Trees Pool on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh.
Hannah Gadd, who was last year's BIG EAST Diver of the Year was unable to defend her crown in a talented field but three finalists for the Cardinals is a school first.
For the men, newcomer Nikolas Sachs who just missed the finals this morning placed ninth overall, winning the consols with a score of 253.90.
The diving portion of the BIG EAST Championship wraps up Sunday, Feb. 12 at noon with platform diving.
After the conclusion of the scored diving events, Notre Dame holds a strong lead in the men's team standings with 129 points. Pittsburgh currently sits in second place with 72 points and West Virginia is on third with 46 points. In the women's competition, Louisville has jumped out to the early lead with 74 points while Notre Dame sits three points behind in second place with 71 points. Rutgers has recorded 52 points and currently holds third place.
The swimming portion of the BIG EAST Championships open next Thursday as the Cardinals seek to defend their men's and women's title of a year ago. The diving points carry over into the swim standings.
