
Women's Tennis Falls to No. 24 Arkansas

The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell to the No. 24-ranked University of Arkansas 6-1 Friday afternoon in Fayetteville. The Razorbacks won the doubles point and then won five singles matches for the win.
The Razorbacks (1-0) notched the first doubles win when Kate Lukomskaya and Catherine Parenteau beat Sarah Miller and Stefanie Villajuan 8-2 at No. 3. But the Cardinal pair of Manuela Velasquez and Amelia Harris combined for an 8-4 win at the No. 1 spot. U of L's Mandy Brown and Rebecca Shine fell in a pitched 8-5 battle for the No. 2 spot to Emily Carbone and Stephanie Roy.
After clinching the doubles point, UA's Claudine Paulson scored the first singles point with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Gabrielle Duncan. Next to fall was Sarah Miller at No. 5 with UA's Laurie Gingras won 6-2, 6-1. The match was clinched at the No. 2 spot when Mandy Brown fell 6-2, 6-3 to Emily Carbone. At No. 6, Amelia Harris almost won the first set but fell 7-5 before succumbing 6-2 in the second at No. 6 to Catherine Parenteau. Scrappy frosh Manuela Velasquez lost her first set 7-5 and then took the second set 6-4 and went on for the win in the tiebreaker for U of L's lone point.
The Cardinals (1-1) face Stephen F. Austin tomorrow in Fayetteville.
