Fall workouts for the Louisville baseball team will continue this week with open scrimmages on Friday and Saturday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
The Cardinals will open the weekend scrimmage schedule on Friday at 3 p.m., ET before concluding on Saturday at 11 a.m. Both scrimmages are open to the public and batting practice will begin approximately one hour prior to first pitch.
Louisville is in its third week of fall workouts in preparation for the 2012 season. The Cards will conclude the fall with the annual Pizza Bowl series, which is tentatively set to begin on Oct. 12. A complete Pizza Bowl schedule will be announced later in the fall.
The Cardinals, led by the return of All-BIG EAST performers Justin Amlung (RHP) and Stewart Ijames (OF) and talented right-handed pitcher Derek Self, welcome back nearly the entire pitching staff and numerous position players with starting experience from last year's squad. Overall, Louisville returns 19 letterwinners from the 2011 team, which finished 32-29 overall.
Head coach Dan McDonnell enters his sixth season leading the Louisville baseball program. In his five previous seasons, McDonnell is 217-106 with two BIG EAST regular-season titles, two BIG EAST Tournament titles, four NCAA Regionals, two NCAA Super Regionals and one College World Series.
