PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore forward Christine Exeter of the Louisville women's soccer team was named to the All-BIG EAST Preseason Team released on Tuesday, while the Cardinals were picked to finish fourth in the National Division by the league's head coaches.
Louisville, which finished fifth in the National Division last year with a 4-7 league record and a 10-9 mark overall, earned 73 points in the voting, while defending NCAA champion Notre Dame led the way in the division with 120 points. Georgetown was picked to finish second in the National with 103 points, while Rutgers was third with 91 points. Following Louisville was Villanova in fifth (67 points) and DePaul in sixth (54 points), while Cincinnati and Seton Hall were tied for seventh with 30 points each.
In the American Division, West Virginia (110 points) was picked first and was followed by Marquette (108), Connecticut (98), USF (76), Providence (51), St. John's (50), Syracuse (38) and Pittsburgh (37).
Exeter (Pickering, Ont./Pickering HS), the 2010 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, led the Cardinals with seven goals and 16 points as a freshman. She had three game-winning goals and finished with a pair of two-goal performances. Her seven goals in 2010 were the most for a Louisville player since Jamie Craft's nine goals in 2006 and the most for a Cardinal freshman since Craft scored eight goals in 2003.
Louisville will host Vanderbilt for an exhibition game on Aug. 13 at 7 p.m., ET at Cardinal Park before opening the 2011 regular season at Eastern Kentucky on Aug. 19 at 5 p.m.
