2011 Louisville Women's Soccer Schedule
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's soccer team announced its 2011 schedule, which includes seven games against teams that advanced to last year's NCAA Championship and eight regular season home games at Cardinal Park.
"We know that for our team to be successful, we need to challenge ourselves to play against as many top teams as possible," said Louisville head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes. "With seven games against NCAA Tournament teams from last year, coupled with the strength of the BIG EAST, we feel this schedule will help our young team to grow throughout the season and prepare us for post-season play."
Louisville will open its 2011 season with an exhibition game against Vanderbilt on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m., ET at Cardinal Park. U of L will open the regular season with a pair of road games at Eastern Kentucky on Aug. 19 at 5 p.m., ET and at Toledo on Aug. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
The Cardinals' regular-season home schedule will begin on Sunday, Aug. 28 at 1 p.m., ET against Illinois, an NCAA Tournament team in 2010. Louisville's home slate will continue with the Courtyard by Marriott Louisville Airport Cardinal Classic on Sept. 2-4. On Sept. 2, Central Michigan will play Kentucky in the first game of the day at 5 p.m., ET, while Louisville will host Baylor at 7:30 p.m., in the finale. On Sept. 4, UK will play Baylor in the opener at noon, while the Cardinals will close the event against Central Michigan, another NCAA Tournament qualifier last season.
Louisville will complete its non-conference schedule with a pair of games at tournament hosted by Kentucky on Sept. 9-11. The Cardinals will open the weekend on Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m., against Kentucky before closing the weekend against Butler on Sept. 11 at noon.
U of L will open its challenging BIG EAST Conference slate on the road on Sept. 16 at 5 p.m., against reigning NCAA champion Notre Dame. That will be followed by the Cardinals' BIG EAST home opener on Sept. 18 at 1 p.m., against DePaul. Louisville will then return to the road for a game at Connecticut, an NCAA Tournament team last season, on Sept. 23 at 7 p.m., and a game at Providence on Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.
The Cardinals will close the month of September at home against Marquette, which advanced to the third round of the 2010 NCAA Championship, on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m., before entering October with a home game against another 2010 NCAA Tournament team, USF, on Oct. 2 at 1 p.m., at Cardinal Park. Louisville will then take to the road for games at Villanova on Oct. 7 at 4 p.m., and at Georgetown, which advanced to the quarterfinals of last year's NCAA Championship, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.
Louisville will close its home schedule with games against Rutgers (Oct. 14, 7 p.m.) and Seton Hall (Oct. 16, 1 p.m.) before closing the regular season on Oct. 22 at 1 p.m., at Cincinnati.
The 2011 BIG EAST Championship will begin with first round games (Oct. 26) and quarterfinal games (Oct. 30) at campus sites, while the semifinals and final are set for Nov. 4-6 in Morgantown, W.Va.
