
Swimming Has Strong Prelims at BIG EAST Day 3

The Cardinals made as strong showing at the BIG EAST Championship Day 3 prelims with six U of L swimmers qualifying as No. 1 in their events.
In the 400-IM, U of L's Fanny Lilliestrom qualified second with a time of 4:20.20. Stephanie Juncker posting the fourth fastest time with a 4:22.30. In the men's 400-IM, Carlos Almeida had the top qualifying time for the Cardinals with a B-cut 3:54.93. Michael Pryor qualified fourth with 3:54.78 with Shane Lichtenberg cruising in at 3:55.69.
In the 100-fly, Raine Thompson was the first of four Cardinals to qualify for the A-cuts. After Thompson's 53.58, came Eszter Povazsay (54.75), Mary Mittel (54.87) and Lacey Bobo (55.03). Grite Apanaviciute and Jackie Sherrard and Nicole Landisch all made the B-finals for added point potential for the Cardinals. For the men, Tim Collins had the top qualifying time in the men's 100-fly with the B-cut time of 48.15. Cardinal Juan Lopez had the fourth fastest qualifying time with 48.84.
U of L placed three women in the A-final of the 200-freestyle. Breann McDowell qualified second with an NCAA B-cut time of 1:48.74, followed closely by Lindsey LaPorte (1:48.84). Sarah Andrews was fifth in 1:48.99 to round out the field for the Cardinals. For the U of L men, Joao De Lucca had the fastest time, posting a 1:35.75 for an NCAA B-cut. Alex Burtch was third, going 1:38.41. In the B-finals, Albert Lloyd touched in 1:39.76.
In the 100-breaststroke, Therese Bergstrom was tops of the field with a time of 1:00.37 for an NCAA B-cut time. Giselle Kohoyda was fourth at 1:02.41 and Aileen Cole went 1:02.42. Cardinal Sara Hartman just missed the A-cut by three one-hundreth of a second to lead the consol qualifiers with a time of 1:03.17. For the Cardinal men, Kameron Chastain had the fastest time of the field with a 53.47 B-Cut. Michael Haefner was third, going 54.49 and Kenneth Crapse was fifth at 54.64.
In the 100-backstroke, U of L's Krissie Brandenburg was second with an NCAA b-cut of 53.89 Eszter Povazsay was third with a time of 54.12. Raine Thompson also made the A-final with a time of 55.36, along with Mary Mittel, who went 55.46. Brendon Andrews was the top qualifier in the 100-back with a time of 47.63, an NCAA b-cut. Tim Collins also made the A-final going 49.50.
