
Swimming Will Populate the Lanes in Day 2 After Prelims

Eighteen Cardinals will compete in the A-finals tonight at the BIG EAST Swimming Championships after a strong showing in the Day 2 Prelims.
In the women's 500-freestyle, Lindsey LaPorte earned a second swim, qualifying sixth with a time of 4:50.10 in a competitive event where eight women made NCAA B-cuts. Breann McDowell missed the top eight by one second, but had the top time in the consols with a 4:53.10.
For the men's 500-free, U of L qualified three swimmers in the top four places, led by Shane Lichtenberg's 4:23.18 who posted the fasted prelim time of the field. Riley Martin was third (4:23.82) and Pedro Oliveira qualifying fourth with a time of 4:25.28. Kevin Bandy (4:28.83), Michael Pryor (4:29.96) and Michael Pryor (4:29.96) will all swim in the consols for the Cardinals.
In the 200-IM, for the U of L women, Sarah Andrews posted the fastest prelim NCAA B-cut time of 2:00.74. U of L's Stephanie Juncker qualified third overall with a time of 2:02.85. Fanny Lilliestrom made the consols with a time of 2:03.89.
The men placed four swimmers in the top eight of the 200-IM. Alex Burtch led the way with the top time of 1:48.52. Carlos Almeida qualified third with a time of 1:48.75, tying with teammate Michael Haefner. All three made NCAA B-Cuts. Albert Lloyd had the sixth fastest time with a 1:49.80.
In the women's 50-free, U of L placed six in the top eight led by Aileen Cole, who had the fastest qualifying time of 22.89 (NCAA B-cut) Teammate Nicole Landisch qualifying third with a time of 23.06. Lacey Bobo was fifth (23.13), Mary Mittel was sixth (23.15), Krissie Brandenburg was seventh (23.22) and Grite Apanaviciute was eighth with a time of 23.29.
For the men in the 50-free, Brendon Andrews was the only swimmer to go under 20 seconds with a swim of 19.90. Matthew Schlytter was fifth (20.39)to complete the top eight. Kameron Chastain and Kenneth Crapse and Joao De Lucca will swim in the consols for the Cardinals.
Finals will be held at 6 p.m. at the Ralph Wright Natatorium on the campus of the University of Louisville. In addition to the above events, the 200-free relay.
