PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Louisville senior first baseman Andrew Clark was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on Monday after leading the nationally ranked Cardinals during their 4-0 stretch last week.
Clark, from New Palestine, Ind., hit .600 (9-for-15) with three home runs, 12 RBI and a slugging percentage of 1.267 as Louisville earned a mid-week win over rival Kentucky and a three-game sweep of BIG EAST foe Rutgers. The week was highlighted by his performance in Saturday's series finale against the Scarlet Knights, when he went 4-for-4 with a career best eight RBI and two home runs, a three-run shot and a grand slam both in the first inning of the game. Overall, Clark is hitting .406 with 11 home runs and 46 RBI this season.
It marks the second time this season Clark has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and the fifth time overall a Louisville player has earned one of the league's two (player and/or pitcher) weekly honors.
Up next, No. 7 Louisville begins a six-game road swing with a pair of mid-week games at Ohio State. The Cardinals and Buckeyes will open their two-game set in Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET in a game to be televised by the Big Ten Network, while Wednesday's game is set for 2:05 p.m.
