
Volleyball Sweeps West Virginia

Morgantown, W.V. Freshman Emily Juhl recorded 13 kills to go along with eight digs and a career-high and BIG EAST tying season-high seven service aces to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-0 sweep over host West Virginia in BIG EAST volleyball action on Sunday afternoon in Morgantown. Juhl recorded six of the Cardinals' final eight points in the third set via ace, including five straight to end the match.
U of L posted its fourth-highest hitting percentage of the season at .349 and recorded a season-high 10 aces during the 25-15, 25-17, 25-11 rout and improves to 17-6 and 11-1 in BIG EAST matches. West Virginia hit .110, becoming the sixth team Louisville has held to a .110 or lower hitting percentage this season. The Mountaineers fell to 14-14 and 4-8 in the BIG EAST.
U of L's Lola Arslanbekova hit .317 while adding 14 kills and four digs to her credit. Freshman Taylor Brauneis dished out a match-high 40 assists, her seventh outing this season with at least 40 assists. Libero Caitlin Welch posted her 10th consecutive match with at least 10 digs, finishing the afternoon with 15, while junior Maci Wachtel added 14, one short of her career-high. West Virginia was led by Kari Post's 25 assists and 13 digs.
U of L came out on fire hitting .353 in the first set and held the Mountaineers to .050 hitting percentage, despite not recording a single block. Welch recorded nine of her match-high 15 digs during the first set. The Cardinals led the entire set although West Virginia managed to tie the set at 1-1 and again at 2-2. The second set featured six ties and four lead changes. West Virginia led briefly at 3-2 before Louisville took over. The Mountaineers pulled within one midway through the set before Louisville used a 12-5 run to close out the set. In the final set, the West Virginia serve receive was no match for Louisville's servers as the Cards recorded seven of their 10 aces in the final set, holding the Mountaineers to a .290 side out percentage.
Louisville travels to Marquette (20-7, 10-2) on Friday for an 8 p.m. ET contest.
