Rachel Komisarz Joins Cardinal Swim Staff

Rachel Komisarz, Olympic swimmer and gold medalist, has joined the University of Louisville swimming coaching staff in the newly added position of full-time assistant coach. Rachel just finished her second year as a volunteer coach for the nationally-ranked Cardinals.
"We are very fortunate to add Rachel to our coaching staff. She has been a Volunteer Coach on our staff over the last two seasons, so she is very familiar with our program philosophy, expectations, and vision," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "She brings tremendous experience as a world class athlete who reached the pinnacle of our sport winning a gold medal and a silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games. More importantly, she exemplifies tremendous discipline, work-ethic, and passion in everything she does, and those characteristics will show in her coaching. This is a great day for our program"
The Warren, Michigan native won both a gold and silver medal in the 2004 Olympics in Athens. She was the 2004 Olympic gold medalist in the 800-meter relay freestyle relay and silver medalist in the 400-meter medley. She is currently a member of the 400-medley relay World Record in Short Course Meters. In addition, she also is the current American Record holder in the 50- and 100- butterfly (Short Course Meters) events as well as the 400 freestyle and 800 freestyle relays (SCM). Komisarz, a 1999 graduate from the University of Kentucky, was a three-time SEC Champion and seven-time All-American from 1996-99.
The 1995 graduate of Warren-Mott High School, she finished first at the 1994 Class A state high school meet in both the 100- and 200-freestyle. She is the only girl from Macomb County to ever win a state swim title.
