After a banner year at the BIG EAST and blazing performances at the Last Chance meet, it is official. The University of Louisville women's swim team will send a school record five swimmers to the NCAA Championships March 12-14 at College Station, Texas.
Whitney Campbell, Therese Bergstrom, Anna Dishuck, Nicole Landisch and Liz Halet have advanced to the national championships.
"Today is a big day for UofL Women's Swimming and Diving. We have five women invited to the NCAA Championships which is the most ever in school history and another solid step in the development and progression of the program," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero.
U of L's five entrants is just one shy of the rest of the BIG EAST schools combined. West Virginia will send three and Notre Dame two and Rutgers one. The Cardinal contingent is one also more than intrastate rival Kentucky (4).
"We had a good weekend in Knoxville at the Last Chance meet which is why we go. Therese Bergstrom broke two school records in the 100-breaststroke (1:00.79) and 200-breaststroke (2:11:06) and put herself in a position to be invited to the NCAA Championships," said Albiero.
