Swimming and Diving Have Strong Showing in Day 3 Prelims

U of L will have swimmers in every event in tonight's finals for Day 3 of the 2009 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Champions at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI.
In the 400-IM, freshman Carlos Almeida boarded the best qualifying time of 3:49.88 which is an NCAA B-cut time. Luke Wakefield went 3:56.05 to qualify sixth. For the women, Amanda Henleben qualified for the finals with a 4:20.54 to place seventh. Teammate Fanny Lilliestrom will swim the consols tonight, posting a time of 4:26.73. Abby Miller snuck in the consols with a time of 4:26.96.
In the 100-fly, Raine Thompson qualified fifth with a time of 54.38. Freshman Lacey Bobo will swim the consols tonight with a time of 55.67 along with Nicole Landisch's 56.16. For the men, the Cardinals put four swimmers in the finals, with Adam Madarassy qualifying second with a time of 48.11. Rafal Kuchta was third in 48.38, Tim Collins was fourth and Doug Dietrich, who posted a time of 48.74. Kris Findorff will return in the consols with a time of 49.28.
In the 200-free, Liz Halet will return in the A-finals, posting a time of 1:49.47. Sarah Andrews will swim in the consols, qualifying ninth with a time of 1:50.58. For the men, Brendon Andrews finalled, with a time of 1:38.43. Alex Sweet (1:40.35) and Shane Lichtenberg (1:40.92) will swim in the consols.
In the 100-breaststroke, Therese Bergstrom is in the hunt for a medal, qualifying second in a time of 1:01.68, which was a 2008 NCAA qualifying mark. Anna Dishuck will head up the field in the consols, missing the finals by two one-hundreths of a second at 1:04.06. Sara Hartman was in her wake, with a time of 1:04.13. For the men, Louisville returns two swimmers to tonight's finals. Vali Preda was second in 54.80 and Sergiu Daghid touched sixth, in 56.27.
In the 100-back Carlos Van Isschot boarded a 46.92, which was an 2008 NCAA qualifying time and a meet record. Adam Madarassy was in hot pursuit and qualified second in 48.61. Senior Peyton Bobo held off teammate Chase Grimes to grab the last final spot, wit ha time of 49.56. Grimes will swim in the consols with a time of 49.57. For the women, Raine Thompson posted the fifth fastest time with a 55.11, which is an NCAA B-cut. Alana Berrocal made the final by one one-hundreth of a second in eighth, going 55.66. Whitney Campbell will swim the consols after going 56.29. For the men, the 100-back will feature Cardinals in the top two qualifying spots.
