
Swimming and Diving Sweep Bearcats

The University of Louisville swimming and diving team swept visiting BIG EAST rival Cincinnati Friday night at the Ralph Wright Natatorium. The Cardinal women prevailed 187-92 and the men won 167-120 in the first meet since November.
The Cardinal men swim Notre Dame Saturday at noon in the Ralph Wright Natatorium.
"This was a good win against a conference opponent," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "Coming back from the long break and training camp it was good to get up and compete again. We did what we had to do to put a hand on the wall first. We will use this as a stepping stone for championship rehearsal."
Cardinal highlights included three wins for Therese Bergstrom who won the 100- and 200-breast events and helped the 200-medley relay team to a win. Liz Halet won the 200-free, gutted out a third in the 500-free and was on two winning relay teams. Diver Kayla Purkiser swept both boards. For the men, Andrei Radzionau on the 50-free (setting a new pool record), the 100-free and helped the 200-medley relay to a win. Diver David Zamkov won the 1-meter board with teammate Scott Sargent taking the 3-meter event.
In the 200-medley relay, the A-relay team of Lacey Bobo, Therese Bergstrom, Nicole Landisch and Liz Halet combined for the win, going 1:45.41. The Cardinal B-relay made it a sweep when Alana Berrocal, Kristi Eramo, Raine Thompson and Anna Dishuck posted a second with a time of 1:46.69. For the men, Carlos Van Isschot gave the men a big lead in the backstroke leg for the A-relay and then Sergiu Daghid, Adam Madarassy and Andrei Radzionau anchored for the win in 1:32.06.
Amanda Henleben finished almost 10 seconds ahead of the rest of the field in the grueling 1000-free, posting a time of 10:13.08. Melissa Steele was second for the Cardinals, touching in 10:23.04. Shane Lichtenberg made it a Cardinal sweep with a win for the men, finishing with a time of 9:29.47. Riley Martin finished second with a time of 9:31.16, just out-touching UC's Stephen Cunningham who posted a time of 9:31.35.
"Riley has made a big step in his development with his swims tonight in the 1000, 500 and 200-fly. He is swimming at a much higher level," said Albiero.
In the women's 200-free, Liz Halet led wire to wire with a time of 152.35, Raine Thompson was second in 153.1 and Sarah Andrews made it a triple crown with a time of 1:54.60. Freshman Brendon Andrews touched first in 1:41.40 for the men. Auburn transfer Kris Findorff made his debut for the Cardinals, touching second in 1:42.11. Freshman Doug Dietrich made it a trifecta with a third place finish, going 1:43.05.
Alana Berrocal touched first in the 100-back, with Lacey Bobo in hot pursuit for second, going 58.71 and 59.01 respectively. Carlos Van Isschot dominated the field in the men's 100-back, with a first place in 49.24. Teammate Pedro Oliveira was second in 51.59.
In the 100-breast, Therese Bergstrom was first in 1:04.10 and teammate Fanny Lilliestrom was second in 1:05.33. For the men, Sergiu Daghid held an early lead and then held out for the win in 57.51. Freshman Kenneth Crapse was third in 1:00:30.
In the 200-fly, Nicole Landisch was first in 2:05.23 and Abby Miller was second 2:06.41 and Stephanie Juncker was third in 2:08.53. Rafal Kuchta held off Adam Madarassy in the men's 200-fly, going 1:51.60 and 1:52.44 respectively.
"I'd like to give a shout-out to Nicole Landisch who won both the 100- and 200-fly," said Albiero.
In the 50-free, Whitney Campbell was first in 23.53 for the win for the Cardinals. Anna Dishuck was second in 24.08. The men had a blazing race with the top two finishers both breaking the pool record. Andrei Radzionau scored a first for the Cardinals, going 20.20 to break Alex Sweet's mark of 20.45. UC's Josh Schneider was second in 20.30. Sweet was third in 20.82.
In the 100-free, Aileen Cole led wire to wire with a time of 52.46 and Anna Dishuck was second in 52.50. For the men, Andrei Radzionau and Josh Schneider duked it out again in the 100-free, with the big Belarussian out-touching the Bearcat 45.38 to 45.60. Louisville's Carlos Van Isschot snuck in for third in 46.61.
On the 1-meter board, Kayla Purkiser was first with a total of 289.64. Senior McKenzie Long posted 275.62 for second. U of L's David Zamkov was first with a score of 315.15 with teammate Scott Sargent posting a score of 298.50, good for second.
In the 200-back, Alana Berrocal won easily in 2:08.38 holding off a pair of Bearcats for the win. Vali Preda finished first for the Cardinals with a time of 1:51.88. U of L's Pedro Oliveira was second, going 1:52.72.
In the 200-breast, Therese Bergstrom won for the Cardinals in 2:20.51. Stephanie Juncker was second in 2:24.59. The Cincinnati men broke up the shutout with a one-two finish as Jeremy Peter (2:06.73) and Kuba Carda (2:09.09) took the top two spots for the Bearcats. Sergiu Daghid was the top U of L finisher with a third in 2:09.28.
In the 500-free, U of L's Raine Thompson touched first in 5:01.68 and Melissa Steele was second (5:04.32) and Liz Halet made it a sweep, going 5:09.30.
In the 100 fly, Nicole Landisch (55.71) , Lacey Bobo (57.93) and Fanny Lilliestrom (58.59) posted the top times for the Cardinals in exhibition. Ellie deJong was credited with first place points with a time of 1:00.64. Adam Madarassy had the fastest time, going 50.58 in exhibition. Josh Schneider took top points with a time of 50.78.
In the 400-IM, Fanny Lilliestrom turned in the fastest time for the Cardinals with a 4:26.49. UC's Renee DeSalle won 4:52.31. In the men's 400-IM, UC's Kuba Carda set a pool record when he posted a time of 4:01.21 for the win.
In 3-meter diving, Kayla Purkiser was first with 305.78 with Scott Sargent finishing first for the men with a score of 338.55 for U of L.
In the final event of the meet, the foursome of Anna Dishuck, Nicole Landisch Aileen Cole and Liz Halet posted a time of 1:34.89 in exhibition. For the men, Kris Findorff, Brendon Andrews, Carlos Van Isschot and Chase Grimes set a new pool record of 1:22.40.
