LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Cincinnati Bearcats scored in each of the first four innings and Dan Osterbrock tossed his third complete game of the season as the Bearcats beat the homestanding Cardinals 11-2.
The Bearcats (25-15, 12-4 BIG EAST) took a 4-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Josh Harrison, a two-run triple by Cameron Satterwhite and a second RBI single by Kevin Johnson.
Cincinnati kept the pressure on with three unearned runs on just one hit in the second. A two-run home run by Ryan Baker in the third upped the advantage to 9-0, chasing Cardinal starter Zack Pitts and a second two-run shot in the fourth by Harrison put the score at 11-0 UC.
Phil Wunderlich lead off the Cardinal (24-16, 8-8 BIG EAST) fourth with a double to right and scored on a single by Chris Dominguez to put the Cards on the board.
Jeff Arnold, Stewart Ijames and Josh Richmond hit consecutive singles for the second Cardinal run of the game in the seventh.
Pitts (5-4) allowed nine runs - six of which were earned, on eight hits and two walks, striking out three in three innings while taking the loss. Neil Holland surrendered a pair of runs on three hits, striking out two in three innings of relief.
John Clarence was sharp, tossing two innings of hitless baseball, giving up a pair of walks while collecting his first three collegiate strikeouts.
James Belanger twirled a 1-2-3 ninth, as the Cardinal pen gave up just one hit over the final five innings.
Osterbrock scattered seven hits and a walk, striking out seven, as the preseason All-BIG EAST selection improved to 6-2 on the season.
Dominguez and Ijames each had two hits for the Cardinals and Arnold extended his career-long hit streak to 11 games, while John Dao's similar streak was snapped.
Game two is scheduled to start on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Patterson Stadium. Admission is free.
