Leslie VanWinkle finished 16th in the 400-IM in the 2008 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, becoming the first-ever woman to score points in the national championship for the University of Louisville Cardinals. Her swim of 4:14.90 was just off her qualifying time of 4:12.43 but put the Cardinals on the scoreboard in the meet.
"She earned the right to be here, no question," said Arthur Albiero, U of L head coach. "Her splits were just a bit off but that is the nature of the beast. Louisville is on the scoreboard for the first time in program history and she helped us get there."
VanWinkle will swim the 200-back tomorrow in her final event of the meet
