Swimming and Diving Post Strong Final Day Prelim Times

The University of Louisville will send on 23 swimmers to tonight's finals in the fourth and final day of the Big East Swimming and Diving Championships at the Nassau County Aquatics Center.
"It was a great morning with lots of good swims, we set ourselves up for success tonight," said Arthur Albiero, U of L head coach. "We are coming down the home stretch."
In the 200-backstroke Andrei Teudean qualified fourth with a time of 1:49.18. Senior Paul Augustus made the B-final with a time of 1:53.46, just .01 better than the next swimmer.
"I was happy for Paul to make the finals, he has been on the wrong end of that .01 second cut before and good things come to those who wait," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero.
Also in the 200-back, two Cardinal women made the A-final with Leslie Van Winkle qualifying third in 1:59.89 and an NCAA B-cut time. Teammate Karen Criss muscled her way into the A-final as well. She will be seeded seventh at 2:02.74, nearly three seconds faster than her qualifying time. Freshman Nicole Cindric will be seeded second in the B-final for more point opportunities for the Cardinals.
In the 100-free, for the men, Andrei Radzionau had the fastest swim in the morning in this event with a time of 43.52 which was the A-cut from a year ago. Carlos Van Isschot and Chris Lindauer tied for fifth in 44.85 to put three Cards in the A-final. Freshman Jordan Wessels got in on the fun in the B-final in 46.53 for added point opportunities. On the women's side, Liz Halet and Whitney Campbell will both be back tonight in the A-final. Halet's 50.80 was an NCAA B-cut and Campbell was in her wake for fifth in 51.23.
In the 200-breast, Anna Dishuck made the A-finals with a time of 2:16.56 and an NCAA B-cut time. It was a bit slower than her qualifying time, so there is plenty of room for the sophomore to move up. Teammate and senior Johanna Nyysti swam her way into the B-finals with a time of 2:23.06. Vali Preda will swim in the A-finals for the third year in a row with a time of 2:01.86. Sergiu Daghid made the B-final in 2:07.02.
In the final swim event of the morning, Adam Madarassy held off all comers, finishing first in 1:46.23. Teammate Rafal Kuchta will join him in the A-final with a time of 1:48.19. For the women Jenny Schimenti will swim in the B-final after posting a time of 2:05.03.
The 1650-free does not do a preliminary qualifier, due to the grueling nature of the race. Anthony Mason, Shane Lichtenberg, Amanda Henleben, Laura Clark and Sarah Andrews will swim the mile for the Cardinals.
