
Women's Golf Finished in Top 10 At NCAA Championship

Daytona Beach, Fla. - The University of Louisville women's golf team rallied for a Top 10 finish in their NCAA Championship debut. The Cardinals shot a 304 in the fourth and final round of action at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship on the Par 72, 6,351-yard layout Legends Course at the LPGA International on Friday. The Cardinals finished 10th with a score of 1214. Louisville was the only team not ranked in the Top 12 to finish in the Top 10 of the NCAA Championship.
"This was an amazing finish in our first championship trip," said head coach Kelly Rothberg. "I am so proud of this team because it was truly a team effort to get us here and to finish in the top 10 despite the adversity they faced this week. This team never gave up all year and always believed in themselves and each other. I am so happy that our seniors were able to end their careers in record setting fashion but it only makes the rest of the team hungry and ready to accomplish more. It has been an incredible year and we are ready to build on it."
Top-ranked Duke won the championship with a score of 1170. No. 12 Purdue finished second with a score of 1185 and No. 8 UCLA finished third with a score of 1186.
Sophomore Cindy LaCrosse finished the four rounds 13 over par with a score of 301 to tie her at 26th. LaCrosse shot a 77 in the final round. She started on the back nine and made the turn at four over par before finishing on the front nine at one over par. Arkansas' Stacy Lewis finished the day six under par to win medalist honors with a score of 282.
Senior Cristina Gonzalez made an impressive comeback in the final round. Gonzalez shot a team low three over par in the final round. She made the turn at one over par and shot two over par on the front nine in her final performance as a Cardinal. Gonzalez finished at 116 with a score of 328.
Freshman Camille Williams continued her consistent play on her home course. Williams finished tied at 34th with a score of 303. She carded a 76 in her final round, finishing two over par on both the back and front nine.
Senior Adrienne White carded a 76 in her final round for the Cardinals. White finished tied at 57th with a score of 307. She made the turn at three over par before finishing one over par on the front nine.
Junior Jenny Calkins finished tied at 60th with a score of 308. Calkins shot an 80 in her final round finishing four over par on the back and front nine.
LaCrosse and White were both honored at the NGCA Banquet following the tournament. Both earned NGCA All-Region honors after finishing in the Top 10 of the NCAA East Regional. LaCrosse finished tied at fifth while White finished seventh.
