The University of Louisville women's golf team won their second consecutive BIG EAST Championship in dramatic fashion with a one hole playoff on Tuesday afternoon at the par 72, 6,067-yard Oxmoor Country Club. Louisville shot a 294 in the final round to tie the Irish with a score of 891.
The Cardinals entered the day three back from leader Notre Dame. By the time the Louisville came to the turn, the Cards had made up the three strokes to pull even with the Irish. The back nine went back and forth until the final hole where both teams were tied, forcing a sudden death playoff. The five player squads headed to the golfers the par-four ninth hole for the playoff. The Irish finished the hole one over par and then Adrienne White sank a putt for par and the Cardinal win.
Sophomore Cindy LaCrosse took medalist honors after setting a new championship record with a score of 213, three under par. White finished one under par with a score of 213 for the runner-up finish. LaCrosse and White both shot a low round of 70. LaCrosse, White and Amanda Henry all earned all-conference honors for finishing in the Top 10 of the championship.
Henry shot a 77 in the final round to finish sixth with a score of 223. Freshman Camille Williams finished her best round of the tournament with a score of 77 to finish 21st with a score of 240 . Junior Jenny Calkins shot an 83 in the final round to finish 29th with a score of 247. Williams and Calkins both shot par on the ninth hole playoff to help the Cards to the BIG EAST title.
