
Johnson Named BIG EAST Hitter of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - University of Louisville slugger Logan Johnson has been named BIG EAST Hitter of the Week after going 7 for 12 (.583) at the plate with a double, three home runs and seven RBI. The Cardinals went 3-1 on the week, sweeping a three-game weekend series from Xavier.
The second baseman from Owensboro, Kentucky posted a 1.417 slugging% and with three walks and a HBP, a .688 OBA. He was flawless in the field, handling 15 chances.
Johnson had three multi-hit games and twice drove in three runs.
Against Evansville Wednesday, with the Cards down 5-0, he belted a three-run home run to cut the lead to two. He was 6 for 8 with a double and two home runs in the sweep of Xavier, and now has seven home runs and 22 RBI in 19 games for the Cards.
A second-team All-BIG EAST selection last season, and a Preseason All-BIG EAST honoree this season, he leads the team in six offensive categories.
Right-handed pitcher Zack Pitts was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll after improving his season record to 4-1 with eight shutout innings against Xavier on Friday. The junior from Elizabethtown, Kentucky scattered four singles and a pair of walks while striking out six in the 6-0 win. Only one Xavier baserunner was allowed to reach second base in the effort.
It is the second time Pitts has been named to the honor roll this season.
The Cards are now 12-7 on the season and are 9-3 in their last 12 games, incuding three straight.
Louisville hosts Ball State Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. ET before opening a five-game road swing at Eastern Kentucky Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The Cardinals open BIG EAST play the following weekend with a three-game set at Villanova.
