
Pitts and Dominguez Named Preseason All-American

TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Louisville baseball players Zack Pitts and Chris Dominguez have been named Louisville Slugger Third Team Preseason All- Americans as selected by Collegiate Baseball
Pitts, a senior righty from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, is the defending BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-BIG EAST, while posting a school record-tying 10 wins, adding a 2.52 ERA while tossing a record 121.2 innings. He ranks third in U of L history with a 3.58 ERA entering the 2008 season.
He was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 30th round of the 2007 MLB Draft.
Dominguez, a redshirt sophomore from Miami, Fla., was the NCAA Columbia Regional MVP after batting .421 (8 for 19) with two doubles, a triple, four home runs and 11 RBI in five games. He hit .262 with 19 doubles and 15 home runs on the season.
He posted a .318 average with eight home runs and 19 RBI in 11 NCAA Postseason games last year.
Both players are on the 2008 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award Watch List, presented annually to the national college baseball player of the year.
Last season, Logan Johnson and Boomer Whiting were named postseason Third Team All-Americans by Collegiate Baseball last season.
The Cardinals set a school record with 47 wins last season under first-year Head Coach Dan McDonnell on their way to the College World Series in Omaha for the first time in school history.
U of L opens the 2008 baseball season on February 22 against Cleveland State at Jim Patterson Stadium.
