
Pitts Selected to 2008 NCBWA Preseason All-American Team

LINCOLN, Neb. - University of Louisville pitcher Zack Pitts has been named to the 2008 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association preseason All-American Second Team.
The senior righty from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, was named 2007 BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-BIG EAST, while posting a school record-tying 10 wins, adding a 2.52 ERA while tossing a record 121.2 innings. He ranks third in U of L history with a 3.58 ERA entering the 2008 season.
He was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 30th round of the 2007 MLB Draft.
Pitts was the ace of the Cardinal staff that made the first trip to the College World Series in school history and won a school record 47 games.
His stellar season was punctuated by a dominant performance against No. 14 Oklahoma State in the opening game of the Super Regional at Jim Patterson Stadium. Pitts twirled seven shutout innings, scattering four hits and a pair of walks, while striking out six in a game televised nationally by ESPN2.
After being named a tri-captain of the 2008 Cardinals, joining fellow seniors Derrick Alfonso and B.J. Rosenberg, Pitts was also named to the preseason release of the 2008 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award Watch List along with Justin Marks and Chris Dominguez.
The Cardinals open the 2008 season at Patterson Stadium on the NCAA's first ever unified start date of February 22 when they host Cleveland State at 2:00 p.m. Admission to all home games is free.
