
Burton Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Daniel Burton has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week after going 11 for 21(.524) at the plate with five doubles and seven runs scored. The Cardinals went 2-2 on the week, winning a weekend series with Northwestern two games to one.
The outfielder from New Albany, Indiana doubled in the ninth on Sunday against Northwestern and scored the tying run, capping a two-run rally. He again doubled in the 11th inning and scored the winning run and take the series.
Burton collected at least two hits in each of the four games on the week, capturing his third career four-hit game in game one of the Northwestern series Friday. In that game he doubled twice and drove in a pair of runs.
After opening the season 0 for 5, Burton has gone 17 for his last 29(.586), and leads the Cardinals in seven offensive categories. He has a pair of two-hit games, three, three-hit games and the aforementioned four-hit effort.
Fellow junior Trystan Magnuson was one of five to earn honor roll mention by the BIG EAST offices after twirling seven shutout innings in the Cardinals' 11-0 win over Northwestern.
The Louisville duPont Manual graduate faced just four over the minimum, scattering four hits, a walk and a hit batter. The seven innings was a career-best, and he matched a career total with six strikeouts.
Magnuson tossed 1-2-3 innings in the third, fifth and sixth in earning the win.
The last Cardinal to earn player of the week honors was J.T. LaFountain on March 2, 2005 when he was tabbed Conference USA Hitter of the Week.
Louisville is off until Thursday when they will host Eastern Michigan in the first of four games in four days against the Eagles at Jim Patterson Stadium where admission is free. First pitch Thursday is set for 3:00 p.m. ET.
