
Cardinal Nine Falls Victim To Redhawks

LOUISVILLE, KY - A pair of late-inning runs lifted Miami to a 3-2 win over the University of Louisville in baseball action Saturday, spoiling a solid pitching effort by sophomore B.J. Rosenberg.
Louisville loaded the bases in the bottom of the second and Nick Haley's RBI single plated Ryan McKinnon for a 1-0 Cardinal (5-3) lead.
In the third, sophomore Logan Johnson doubled to the gap in left-center, his fourth double of the season. A balk by Miami starter Keith Weiser moved Johnson to third, and the next pitch was wild, putting the Cards up 2-0.
Miami (1-4) first baseman Paul Frietch opened the fifth inning with his first home run of the season, a solo shot to right center to cut the Cardinal lead to 2-1.
Jason Brown was hit by a pitch in the eighth and with two out, catcher John Slone lifted a blooper to shallow center that scored Brown to tie up the game at two.
In the ninth, Brandon Hillier's RBI double scored pinch-runner Courtney Campbell for what turned out to be the winning run.
The Cardinal offense outhit the Redhawks 10-7, but U of L stranded 13 runners on the day.
Rosenberg, who picked up a no decision allowed just two runs on five hits and a walk in eight innings, equalling a career high with eight strikeouts.
Closer Brian Halford (0-1) took the loss, giving up a run on two hits in an inning of work.
Weiser surrendered two runs - one earned on nine hits and three walks to go with three strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
Reliever Connor Graham (1-1) gave up just one hit and a walk in 2.2 innings, fanning four to earn the win.
Haley was 3 for 4 with a walk and an RBI in loss, while Johnson, Derrick Alfonso and Chris Cates each had two hits.
U of L and Miami will play a doubleheader on Sunday in Cardinal Stadium beginning at noon.
