FORT WORTH, TX - University of Louisville senior J.T. LaFountain was named Conference USA Co-Hitter of the Week for his efforts in the Cardinals' sweep of Cincinnati over the weekend.
In three games LaFountain was 6 for 12 with two doubles, three home runs, six home run, a 1.417 slugging percentage and nine RBI. LaFountain shares the award with Tulane's Nathan Southard.
In the series opener Friday, LaFountain sealed the C-USA opening victory with a two-run home run in the ninth. He added a walk and a sacrifice fly in the 15-12 win over UC.
The fifth-year senior from Utica, New York was 3 for 4 with four RBI and two runs scored, smacking another two-run home run, this one in the first, scoring the only runs the team would need in a 10-0 win in game one of a doubleheader Sunday. He also hit his fourth double on the year.
In the nightcap, LaFountain again doubled and homered in a 2 for 4 effort to lead the Cards to a 6-2 win.
The last Cardinal to earn C-USA Hitter of the Week honors was Ryan McKinnon, when he was tabbed in the final week of the 2004 regular season when the Cards swept South Florida.
LaFountain was previously honored on March 18, 2002 with Co-Hitter of the Week honors after he was 10 for 19 in five games with seven runs scored, two home runs, three doubles, five walks and five RBI. Louisville (12-6, 3-0) will head to Richmond, Kentucky on Tuesday looking for the season sweep over Eastern Kentucky after topping the Colonels 8-7 on February 23rd. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.
