
Halford Selected to Preseason All-Conference USA Team

IRVING, TX - University of Louisville junior relief pitcher Brian Halford has been selected to the 2005 Conference USA Preseason All Conference team.
The Louisville Eastern High School graduate was 6-6 last season with six saves in 25 appearances covering 61.2 innings. Halford was 4-3 with 4 saves in 15 C-USA games in 2004.
Halford is tied for sixth in career saves at U of L with seven after taking over the closer role last season.
The 13-member team, selected by the conference head coaches, features just one relief pitcher and coincides with the release of the Preseason Baseball Coaches Poll which places the Cards seventh of 12 teams.
Tulane, who is Baseball America's preseason number one, was a unanimous selection to win the conference.
The 2004 Cards were 26-30 overall with a 13-17 mark in C-USA finishing eighth. Louisville had seven underclassmen, including four freshman play in more than half of the teams' games. Freshman pitchers made 30 starts in 56 games.
Louisville will open Jim Patterson Stadium this season as it plays its final season as a member of C-USA before moving into the BIG EAST.
