Jurich Earns All-Region Honors

MT. PLEASANT, MI - Louisville senior outfielder Mark Jurich has been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-South Region Second team. It marks the second time Jurich has earned the honor, as he was also named All-Region in 2002.

Jurich is in Danville, Virginia where he will play for the Danville Braves of the Appalachian League(A). They will open their season on Monday, June 21st.

Drafted last season in the 13th round by the Braves, Jurich had his rights retained by Atlanta as a fifth-year senior and signed following the 2004 season.

Jurich was also named First Team All-Conference USA in 2002 and 2004 and hit .353 with 47 runs, 19 doubles, three triples, 19 home runs and 60 RBI in 56 games this season. He posted a .702 slugging percentage with 165 total bases and committed just a single error this year.

Jurich finished his career at Louisville ninth in games played (193), seventh in hits (234), seventh in at-bats (714), first in doubles (58), sixth in triples (12), fourth in home runs (47) and seventh in RBI (178). His 19 doubles this season is tied for seventh all-time and his 19 home runs is tied for the eighth highest total in a single season.

Following the 2002 season, Jurich played on the gold medal-winning USA Baseball National Team and was named third-team All-American by the NCBWA.

The South Region First Team is made up of 12 players from the SEC and one player from Conference USA. The University of Florida and Vanderbilt tied for the most first team selections with three while Vanderbilt and Southern Mississippi led all teams with four selections to the two team squad.

The South Region consists of 34 schools and is one of eight regions that make up the ABCA All-American selection process.
