CHICAGO, IL - University of Louisville junior Ryan McKinnon was named Conference USA Baseball Hitter of the Week for his efforts in the Cardinals sweep of South Florida over the weekend.
In three games McKinnon was 6 for 15 with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBI.
In the series opener Thursday, it was McKinnon's grand slam in the third that set the tone and proved to be the difference in the 9-5 win over the Bulls.
On Friday he went 3 for 5 with three RBI and two runs scored on his 12th double and ninth home run of the season.
McKinnon drove in a run with a bases-loaded single and then scored the game-tying run in the Cards' eight-run rally in the ninth inning on Saturday to clinch the sweep and a berth into the 2004 Conference USA Tournament in Houston.
It was the first time McKinnon earned the honor and he is the first Cardinal since Morgan Bojorquez won it on March 17, 2003.
The third baseman, who is limited to action as the DH because of a shoulder injury, is hitting .287 with 13 doubles, three triples, 9 home runs and 38 RBI on the season.
The Cards are headed to Houston for the C-USA tournament as the #8 seed and will face regular season champion and #1 seed East Carolina on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. ET.
Audio broadcasts can be heard on-line at UofLsports.com and in Louisville on WAVG 1450 for all postseason games.
