Cardinal Nine Beat by Bulls 8-2

LOUISVILLE, KY - The University of Louisville baseball team was unable to clinch a series sweep of South Florida Sunday as the Bulls prevailed 8-2 at Cardinal Stadium.
After the Cards tallied a four-run inning in each of the first two games of the series it was South Florida providing one Sunday, as the Bulls took a 4-0 lead in the fifth. Left fielder Travis Brown lead off with a home run, and four consecutive singles and a double play ground ball scored three more for the Bulls.
Louisville (15-9, 5-4) answered with a two-run single by J.T. LaFountain in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead in half.
An RBI single by Bryan Hierlmeijer in the sixth plated an unearned run, increasing the lead to 5-2
In the eighth, Brown lead off with his second home run of the game, and Jeff Baisley singled in two runs with the bases loaded for the 8-2 final.
Travis Rios (5-0) earned the win, tossing six innings and allowing two runs on six hits while fanning eight.
Cardinal starter Griffin Bailey took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk in 4.0 frames. He struck out two.
Mike Eilers allowed two runs - one earned, on three hits and a walk in 3.1 innings of relief, while Carlos Fernandez gave up two unearned runs on two hits and a walk while striking out two in two-thirds of an inning.
Brian Halford allowed a hit and struck out one in the ninth for U of L.
Freshmen Boomer Whiting and Nick Haley each had two hits for the Cards.
The Cards will travel to Evansville Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. ET game against the Aces, and turn around and host Evansville Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. ET at Cardinal Stadium.
