
Cardinal Nine Too Much for Aces

EVANSVILLE, IN - Louisville Cardinal first baseman Morgan Bojorquez drove in six runs and six pitchers combined on a three-hitter as Louisville crushed Evansville 10-1 Wednesday.
Bojorquez blasted a first inning grand slam after walks to Dave Williams Jr., J.T. LaFountain and Mark Jurich, putting U of L up 4-0. It was the fourth consecutive game Bojorquez has homered, and his first career grand slam. In the past four games, the junior from Miami has 16 RBI, and was named Monday as Conference USA Hitter of the Week.
Left fielder Josh Bolen tripled to the gap in right center with one out in the third and scored on a wild pitch for a 5-0 advantage.
Evansville(18-28) picked up its only run of the game on a sac fly by Blake Whealy in the bottom of the third.
With two out in the fourth, LaFountain singled, Jurich walked and Bojorquez ripped a double to right center, plating two and putting the Cards up 7-1. Bolen then singled home Bojorquez for an 8-1 lead.
In the eighth, third baseman Mike Budak singled home Williams Jr. and LaFountain to seal the victory.
Louisville starter Zach Jackson (8-1) placed himself in second place all-time on the U of L single season win list with two hitless innings, allowing a walk for the win.
Scott Barber gave up a run on two hits and a walk while striking out two in two frames. Garrett Estabrook also tossed two innings and struck out two while giving up a hit and a walk. Mike Eilers, Carlos Fernandez and Grant Williams each had a scoreless inning of relief.
Evansville starter Ken Smith (1-5) took the loss giving up the three walks and the grand slam to Bojorquez in the first, striking out one. Seven other pitchers toed the rubber for the Aces Wednesday night.
The grand slam by Bojorquez was the third for the Cards this season, joining LaFountain and Carlos De la Osa. Budak also had a pair of hits for U of L.
Williams Jr. and Bojorquez each extended hitting streaks to 12 games.
The Cardinals will host UAB for a three-game weekend series at Cardinal Stadium beginning Friday at 6:00 p.m.
