LOUISVILLE, KY - Kent State beat Louisville 13-4 in the second game for both teams Sunday at Cardinal Stadium.
The Golden Flashes(2-4) who lost to Louisville 14-7 Friday and Illinois 6-5 earlier in the day, picked up three runs in the second and third innings to take a 6-0 lead.
The Cards(7-3) were held hitless until the fourth, when after junior Josh Bolen reached on a strikeout, Morgan Bojorquez belted his third home run of the season to make it 6-2 Kent.
The Flashes exploded for five more runs in the fifth to increase the lead to 11-2. A single run in the sixth by Kent was answered by the Cards on a sacrifice fly by senior Mike Budak also in the sixth.
KSU scored again in the top of the seventh, before an RBI single by DH Fernando Isa in the bottom of the stanza measured the final margin.
Cardinal starter Scott Barber (1-1) took the loss, giving up six runs on seven hits and two walks in 2.2 innings. He struck out four.
Kent starter Matt Lorenzo (1-1) went five strong allowing just one hit and three walks that resulted in two runs. He fanned eight Cardinal batters in his five innings of work. Four KSU relievers scattered three hits and two walks, while striking out three over the final four frames.
Bolen scored twice, and has now scored a team-leading 17 runs. He has now hit safely in all 10 games this season, and is second on the team with a .450 average.
Louisville will host Cleveland State on Tuesday and Wednesday for 3:00 p.m. games at Cardinal Stadium. Admission is free.
