Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Kentucky on Wednesday night in Cardinal Park. The Cardinals fall to 2-7-1 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 6-3.
"We played our hearts out," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "The red card was very unfortunate and it changed the momentum of the game. UK played very well and they are well-coached. They are a difficult team to beat.
"It is a bit frustrating, we are in every game and we come up short. The most frustrating is that we haven't scored a goal in six games. But we are gonna keep our heads up."
The first half ended in a scoreless tie. Then just five minutes into the second half UK's Jamal Shteiwi took the ball from Brandon Stewart and dribbled in shooting past freshman keeper Brad Sokolowski for the game winner.
The Cardinals had their chances when Senior Courtenay Commander took a penalty kick in the 55th minute but UK keeper Greg Raber made the save.
Then in the 77th minute of play, U of L's Matt Rose was issued a red card, forcing the Cardinals to play one man down the rest of the way.
The Cardinals will travel to East Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 6 for a matchup at 2:00 p.m.
