
Men's Soccer Wins Thriller In Overtime Against The Cats

Lexington, Ky. - In its second consecutive overtime match of the season, the University of Louisville men's soccer defeated the University of Kentucky in the 104th minute for a 1-0 victory. The Cardinal defense held tough, showing signs of last year's success while senior keeper Jeremy Morales knotched five saves in the first shutout of the season.
The match was played even, forcing an extra period. In the 95th minute, the Wildcats got a shot on goal when Chris McAlpine took the ball straight away and sent a shot just left of the goal from about 40 yards out. Two minutes later, UK's Nathan Fleetwood had a direct free kick saved, while Monty Frazier had two point-blank shots saved by Louisville keeper Morales early in the 104th minute.
The Cards' newcomer Simon Bird took a pass from senior George Zabaneh to get past the Kentucky defense. Bird went one-on-one with the UK keeper Brad Samelko, while his shot was deflected by Samelko it slipped into the net at the 103:54 mark for the win.
On the night, the Cards held a slight advantage with 13 shots over the Wildcat's 11. The Cards also held a 6-5 corner-kick advantage. Samelko finished with seven saves.
The Cardinals will host No. 11 South Florida on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in Cardinal Park.
