Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team fell to Indiana 4-0 Thursday night at Cardinal Park. The Hoosiers improve to 3-2-0 on the season while the Cards fall to 1-3-0.
The game was scoreless until the 23rd minute when Indiana senior Pat Noonan scored on a long pass from Mike Ambersley. Cardinal goalkeeper Jeremy Morales dived for the ball but missed it by inches.
Then Noonan and Ambersley connected again to put the Hoosiers up 2-0 at the 33:39 mark. Noonan shot the ball but it hit the crossbar. Ambersley took the deflection and laid it in front of Noonan for the score. The rest of the half remained scoreless and Indiana went into the lockerroom with a 2-0 advantage.
"I thought we got off to a slow start," said Indiana head coach Jerry Yeagley. "But then we saw the things we had hoped to see. We didn't come out with much intensity but once we settled down we played better."
In the second period, Indiana got off to a quick start as senior midfielder Tyler Hawley took a pass from J.D. Johnston and bounced the ball in under Morales at the 50:42 mark.
The Hoosier then put the Cards away with an unassisted goal by Ambersley at the 67:41 mark. Louisville could never recover.
"We played the first 30 minutes and I predicted that the team would have mental breakdowns and would fall behind," said Louisville coach Tony Colavecchia. "It was a good Indiana team who deserved the victory."
The Cards will be in action again on Sunday as they travel to Chicago to take on the DePaul Blue Demons at 1:00 p.m.
