New Orleans, LA. - Junior pitcher Josh Ring, senior outfielder Mike Hook and freshman outfielder Mark Jurich were all honored Tuesday night at the 2001 FedEx C-USA Baseball Tournament banquet.
Ring, a junior college transfer from Jefferson Davis Community College, was named to the first team All-Conference as a relief pitcher. The Niceville, Florida native tied the U of L single season record for saves with 10 this season, leading the conference.
Ring was 4-5 with an ERA of 4.41 in 26 appearances, the fourth most in a single season at Louisville. His ten saves rank him third all-time for the Cardinals despite this being his first season with the team. He has struck out 72, tying him for the 10th highest single season total in Louisville baseball history.
Hook, in his third year with the team, was named to the second team. He is second on the team in hitting with a .325 average, RBI(32) and runs(42). He leads the team in walks with 24 and stolen bases, swiping 25.
He is the only player in U of L history with three seasons of 20 or more steals, nabbing at least 25 in each of his three years. His 29 steals last season was the second highest total in school history, with the 25 in '99 and '01 the third best totals on the list. He is second all-time with 79 career steals.
Hook has made just four errors in his three years in the outfield. He is also the all-time leader in school history, getting hit by a pitch on 23 occasions.
Jurich, a graduate of Louisville's Ballard High School, was one of the 12 members of the All-Freshman team. He lead the team in home runs with seven and slugging percentage(.548), was second in doubles with 12 and second in walks with 22. He was also 5th on the team with 25 RBI, playing in 49 games, starting 38 as a right fielder and DH.
His .327 average in conference games was second on the team.
Ring's selection to the first team is the first since catcher James McAuley in 1998. Last season third baseman Scott Kohler was named to the second team, and Dave Williams Jr. was on the All-Freshman team.
Louisville opens the tournament Wednesday at 1:30p.m. ET as the number six seed against third seeded South Florida at Zephyr field in New Orleans.
