
Baseball Streak Ends At Five

Toledo's Phil Pilewski drove in five runs and picked up the save as the Rockets ended Louisville's winning streak at five with an 8-6 victory at Cardinal Stadium Wednesday.
Toledo put itself on the board in the first, taking a 1-0 lead when Pilewski singled in left fielder Andy Stetka who lead off with a walk. Cardinal starter Derek Davis worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam by inducing a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
Louisville second baseman Matt Jarboe's fielder's choice in the fourth plated left fielder Dave Williams Jr. to even the score, 1-1.
The Rockets jumped back on top in the fifth, when an error extended the inning allowing two unearned runs to score. Pilewski hit a sacrifice fly to right field, plating second baseman Taylor Eckel. Right fielder Jay Juras singled in Stetka, making it 3-1, Toledo.
U of L third baseman Mike Budak blasted his second home run of the season, driving in right fielder Bill Gatti Jr. and evening the score at 3-3 in the fifth. Budak's line drive to right on a 1-2 pitch drove in his team leading 26th and 27th runs of the season.
In the top of the seventh, UT's Pilewski cleared the bases with a triple to right-center, putting the Rockets back in the lead 6-3. A single by catcher Mitch Maier plated Pilewski, and Eckel singled home the final run of the frame, giving Toledo an 8-3 advantage.
The Cards countered with two in the bottom of the inning on an RBI groundout by catcher Fernando Isa and an RBI single by DH Carlos De la Osa, cutting the lead to 8-5.
Louisville loaded the bases in the ninth, but only managed to push across a single run, ending the game at 8-6.
Reliever Adam Jackson(1-0) tossed three innings of relief to pick up the win. Jackson gave up three runs on two hits and five walks, while striking out one. Pilewski moved from first to the pitching mound to pick up his second save of the season.
Cardinal reliver Chris Keaton (0-1) took the loss, pitching the middle three innings and giving up six runs, four of which were earned, on seven hits to go with a strikeout. Davis and reliever Carlos Fernandez each gave up a single run on three hits in three innings to go with two strikeouts. Davis walked two batters.
Gatti was 2 for 3, scoring twice, while Isa and first baseman Morgan Bojorquez also had two hits apiece.
Louisville will open the conference portion of the season on Friday when they visit rival Cincinnati(11-4) at 3:00 p.m. for the first of three over the weekend.
