For the second time this season, Louisville sophomore Mike Tisdale was named Conference USA Baseball Pitcher of the Week, for the week of March 5th-11th. He earned the award on February 19th, and is the only two-time winner this year.
Tisdale, a transfer from St. Petersburg Community College in Florida, tossed a complete game, five-hit shutout in the Cardinals series-opening 5-0 victory over Southern Illinois on Friday. Louisville swept the three-game series and have won six of its last seven.
The 6' 3" right-hander went all nine innings, walked only three and struck out a career high 11, facing 32 batters-just five over the minimum. He istruck out the side in the second. Only two runners reached second base.
Tisdale hails from Peterborough, Ontario, and has won in his last two starts. He is 3-2 overall on the 2001 season with a 4.32 ERA and two shutouts. He has 26 strikeouts in 33.1 innings.
Tisdale becomes the first pitcher in Cardinal baseball history to win pitcher of the week twice in a season or career. Catcher James McAuley was tabbed twice by C-USA in the 1999 slate.
Louisville is 12-9 on the season and will host Toledo in a two-game midweek series, with games at 3:00 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium Tuesday and Wednesday. The Cards are 11-3 at home.
