Cardinal Baseball Blanked By Hawai'i

University of Hawaii right hander Chad Giannetti notched his first collegiate victory Sunday combining with two other Rainbow pitchers for a 4-0 shutout over the Louisville Cardinals.
Giannetti went six innings striking out five and walking one for the Rainbows(5-4). Wakon Childers and Bryan Lee pitched the final three innings for the combined shutout.
Despite taking the loss, Cardinals' starter Denny Williams(0-2) was solid, scttering seven hits over his six innings, walking two, striking out two and allowing no earned runs. Four fielding miscues behind Williams lead to the Cards(1-6) demise and the Rainbows four unearned runs.
UH opened the scoring off in the second inning when Chad Boudon reached second base on a double error by UofL shortstop Adam Haley. Boudon later scored on Tim Montgomery's RBI single up the middle.
In the third, UH added two more runs as Matthew Purtell reached on another Haley error. Patrick Scalabrini walked and Gregg Omori singled to left driving in Purtell and sending Scalabrini to third. Danny Kimura then hit into a 5-4-3 double play plating Scalbrini.
The Rainbows added their final run in the fourth as Cortland Wilson reached second on a two-base error by UofL third baseman Mike Budak. Arthur Guillen moved Wilson to third on a ground out where he later scored on Purtell's single to center.
Louisville picked up two hits from DH Scott Gerlach who is hitting .444 this season. Mike Hook, Budak and Haley also picked up singles for U of L. Budak has hit safely in the Cards last six games. Sophomore Mike Tisdale matched Williams on the mound with two scoreless innings, giving up only one hit, and one walk to go with a strikeout.
The Cardinal nine will be home this upcoming weekend as they host Detroit Mercy Friday at 3:00 at Cardinal Stadium. They will play a doubleheader Saturday at 12:00 and a single game Sunday at 1:00. Friday's game will mark the season opener for the Titans, as they begin its first season since 1964 under a coach other than Bob Miller(896-753-2) as former Titan pitcher('85-'88) Chris Czarnik takes over.
