
Men's Soccer Wins in Overtime

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team defeated Memphis 4-3 in overtime today in their final home game at Cardinal Park. The Cardinals improve to 7-9-1 overall and 3-5-1 in conference play. The win marked the Cards fourth victory in six games.
"This game was a great test of character coming from behind to win," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "It was a great game by both teams that had a lot to lose. It was a great team performance and our depth really came in to play."
The Tigers got on the board early scoring in the ninth minute of play. Matt Bryant scored an unassisted goal from 25 yards out. The Cardinals' offense responded in the 15th minute of play. Louisville's Simon Bird scored on a header from Adrian Cann.
In the 22nd minute, George Zabaneh had a header deflected by the Memphis keeper Clark Talley. Zabaneh then booted the deflection back in for the score, giving the Cards a 2-1 lead at the half.
Memphis knotted up the score in the 61st minute of play. Tiger forward Sean Fraser scored off a cross from Justin Stralka. Memphis' Lars Thorstensen scored on a breakaway the went over UofL keeper Jeremy Morales' head in the 75th minute of play to go up 3-2.
The Cardinals' freshman Richard Pell scored on a header from Courtenay Commander in the 84th minute of play to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Louisville's leading goal scorer Bird struck again on a breakaway from Commander to win the game in the 97th minute.
Senior keeper Morales collected seven saves while Memphis keeper Talley had three.
The Cardinals will wrap up the season against TCU on Sunday, Nov. 11 in Fort Worth, Texas.
