Southern Miss Rallies Late To Beat Cardinals 5-2

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Southern Miss broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the eighth to defeat Louisville 5-2 in baseball action Friday night.
The Golden Eagles manufactured its runs with a bases-loaded fielder's choice, a wild pitch and a sac fly.
USM (22-11, 8-1) starter Chad Rodgers had a no-hitter until first baseman Curtis Sapp led off the seventh with a single to right. Rodgers went 7.1 innings, giving up two unearned runs on three hits, a walk and 11 strikeouts, but did not figure in the decision.
Bentley matched Rodgers through five, but left fielder Greg Wooley, who led off the inning with a double, scored on centerfielder Dusty Haley's two-bagger to take a 1-0 lead. USM pushed across another in the seventh to grab the 2-0 lead.
Matt Jarboe led off the eighth with a walk, and pinch hitter Morgan Bojorquez followed with a single to right, which was mishandled, allowing Jarboe to score and Bojorquez to advance to second. Pinch hitter Bill Gatti Jr. reached on an error, advancing Bojorquez to third, and Sapp hit a sacrifice fly to left to tie the game at two.
USM reliever Danny Stout (4-0) tossed 1.1innings and struck out three to pick up the win.
The two will meet Saturday at 4:00 EDT, and Sunday at 2:30 EDT to wrap up the set.
