Tampa, Fla. - The South Florida men's soccer team took advantage Saturday night of two Louisville misfortunes to squeek out a 2-1 win over the Cardinals in double overtime at the USF Soccer Stadium. After a physical but scoreless first half, in which Louisville had a goal called back, four South Florida players feigned a freekick that Sage Martina (Orlando, Fla./Winter Park) fired past Cardinals keeper Jeremy Morales in the 56th minute of play.
The Cardinals came back just 36 seconds later with a goal by Nathan Stephens, bringing on a tie that would endure for the remainder of regulation play. Louisville momentarily held victory in their sights, but had yet another goal called back.
Neither team budged in the first overtime period, but the Bulls' Greg Krauss (Clearwater, Fla./Clearwater) finally broke the tie in the 110th minute of play, knocking in a rebound off an almost-goal by Wes Elias (Ocala, Fla./St. John Lutheran).
Louisville will be in action again as they travel to Cincinnati on Wednesday, Nov. 1.
