Bob King excelled in both basketball and baseball at UofL. He earned All-Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors two years as a sophomore and junior as the Cards’ starting center. King averaged nine points a game for his career, which was cut short when he was drafted into the Air Force prior to his senior year in 1942.

King’s baseball performance during his war-shortened career was equally spectacular. He led the Cards to an undefeated season in the spring of 1940 with a .360 batting average. King still holds the UofL record of not striking out in at least forty-seven (47) official trips to the plate. After 24 years of service, King retired in 1982 from the American Synthetic Rubber Company.
