The 6-5 forward from Vine Grove, Ky., William Darragh was known as Mr. Steady during his playing days at UofL. He connected on 87% of his free throw attempts in 1956-57, at the time the third best single season performance in Louisville history. Regarded as a great defensive player, Darragh routinely took the opponents top player. He held Dayton’s Dick Palmer scoreless in the second half of the final game of the 1956 NIT after Palmer scored 21 points in the first half, helping Louisville to the national championship. Darragh scored 878 points and pulled down 622 rebounds (11.1 ppg & 7.9 rpg) for his career. During his career, Louisville compiled a record of 66-16, a winner percentage of .804.
