Junior: Schlytter was a key player as a part of the Cards sprinting group. He qualified to compete at the NCAA Championships for the first time. At the NCAA Championships, he was a member of the 200-free relay that finished 8th and set a new school record, splitting 19.44. Individually, Schlytter finished 49th in the 50-free with a time of 20.14. He was named All-American as a member of the 200-free relay. At the BIG EAST Championships, he completed the Cards 1-2-3 sweep in the 50-free in a time of 19:94. In the 100-free, he finished tenth in a time of 44:67. Schlytter was also a member of the BIG EAST champion 200-free relay which set new BIG EAST and school-records. He was named a two-time All-BIG EAST performer and his time in the 50-free met the national B-cut. In the dual meet against Kentucky, he anchored the winning 200-medley relay and individually placed first in the 50-free.
Sophomore: Schlytter had a great showing at the BIG EAST Championships, competing in the 200-medley relay, the 200-free relay, and the 50- and 100- free as well as the 200-free preliminaries. He swam the freestyle leg of the 200-medley relay and had the secondfastest split with a time of 19.60, helping the team to a B-cut and race-winning time of 1:27.86. Schlytter swam the second leg of the 200-free relay and had the fastest split with a time of 19.64, guiding the team to another first-place finish (1:19.69). He added a fifth-place finish in the 50-free with a time of 20.42. Schlytter finished the year as a two-time All-BIG EAST performer.
Freshman: During Matt's freshman season, he provided depth in the spring events, swimming the 50-, 100-, and 200-free and the 100-breast. He finished third in the 50-free against West Virginia with at time of 21.78 and third against Pittsburgh with a time of 21.59.
Prep: Matthew joined the Cardinals from Allen D. Nease High School in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. where he swam for Gina Aguilar and for Jason Calanog at the Bolles School Sharks. He was the 2008 Florida High School Athletic Association Class 2-A Champion in the 50-freestyle and second in the 100-freestyle. While with the Bolles Sharks, Matt's team placed first at the 2008 Short Course Junior National Championships and the Florida Spring Senior Championships. Some of his honors and awards include three time All-American, State Champion, All- State Team, Florida Times-Union swimmer of the year in 2008, and four time Short Course Junior National Relay Record Holder.
Personal: He is the son of Mark and Kathleen Schlytter. Born November 6, 1990. He plans on majoring in sports administration.
