SINGAPORE -- University of Louisville swimmer Denis Petrashov won bronze in the 100M breaststroke at the 2025 World Championships at the World Aquatics Championships Arena in Singapore as the Cardinals take the world stage.

Petrashov, swimming for his native Kyrgyzstan, had a strong finish, surging ahead from fourth to third over the final 50 meters. He swam to a Kyrgyzstani record to earn bronze. It's his first time breaking 58 seconds in this race, resetting his own national record of 59.20 that he set in the semifinals. His time of 58.88 earned him his first medal at the World Championship level. Qin Haiyang of China turned in the gold medal time of 58.23 with Italy's Nicolo Martinenghi taking silver, just barely edging Petrashov with a time of 58.58.

Louisville's Anastasiya Gorbenko, who swam for her native Israel, took seventh place in the 200M IM with a time of 2:10.26 after being seeded fourth in the semifinals with a time of 2:09.68.

Abdelrahman Elaraby touched the wall in 23.12 to finish 14th in the men's 50M butterfly. Elaraby represents Egypt in the Championships.

Denis Loktev finished 12th and set a new national record for Israel as part of the 400M Freestyle Relay that clocked in at 3:13.39.
