Cards are Gold and Bronze at the World University Games

BERLIN, Germany -- The University of Louisville swimmers continue to make their mark on the international stage, winning gold and bronze medals at the 2025 World University Games in Berlin, Germany on Monday.

Julia Dennis and Caroline Larsen helped the 4x100 Mixed Freestyle Relay team advance to the finals as Owen McDonald (49.48), Mitchell Schott (48.05), Caroline Larsen (54.41) and Julia Dennis (54.19) helped Team USA to the top seed in the finals, posting a time of 3:26.13. Team USA went on to win gold in the event with a time of 3:24.27.

In the same event, Guy Brooks led off South Africa's relay with a split of 49.76 as the RSA posted a 3:31.51 to qualify fifth. Â South Africa won bronze in the finals with a time of 3:28.51.

In the finals of the 100M butterfly, Ella Welch turned in a 59.07 to finish fifth.

In Monday's preliminaries, Kim Herkle, who finished ninth in the 200M breaststroke on Sunday evening, qualified 13th in the 200M IM, turning in a 2:17.03. In the semifinals, she turned in a 2:17.24 to finish eighth in her heat and 15th overall.

 South Africa's Guy Brooks turned in a 54.93 in the 100 M butterfly. Brazil's Gustavo Saldo finished 20th overall with a 53.70 in the 100M fly.
