• 2015 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America
2016: Made seven relief appearances with 3.24 ERA during second collegiate season. Worked an inning of shutout relief against Indiana on May 17. Had one strikeout in two innings of scoreless relief at Boston College on April 22. Worked two innings of shutout relief allowing only one hit against Western Kentucky on April 12. Made season debut with two innings of relief against Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 23.
Summer 2015: The rising sophomore closed the summer with a 4-0 record and 52 strikeouts in 50.1 innings pitched for the Vermont Mountaineers, who won the NECBL championship. He made 10 total appearances with eight starts, including two victorious outings in the playoffs. In his final start of the summer, the righty had six strikeouts and allowed just one run in eight dominant innings to help Vermont avoid elimination with a 5-4 victory in game two of the championship series.
2015: Was 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 40.0 innings pitched during Freshman All-America season. Made 20 appearances overall, including four starts. Delivered a perfect ninth inning against Cal State Fullerton in game two of NCAA Super Regional. Came out of the bullpen for two innings of scoreless work at NC State on May 15. Had one strikeout in 1.2 innings of shutout relief against No. 7 Vanderbilt on May 12. Moved to 4-0 on the season with two innings of shutout relief at Clemson on May 3. Worked a career-long seven innings allowing just one run on six hits in a no-decision against Kentucky on April 28. Was 7-2 with a 1.01 ERA, one save and 66 strikeouts as a senior. Was 8-0 with a 1.63 ERA and 58 strikeouts as a junior after finishing 7-0 with a 2.11 ERA and 47 strikeouts as a sophomore. Three-year letterwinner in football as a quarterback and earned All-Conference honors. Also earned Academic All-Area in both baseball and football.
Personal: Born on June 23, 1996 in Tinley Park, Ill. Parents are Gene Leland and Chris Leland. Has two siblings, Ryan and Jessica. Majoring in finance. After college, he wants to pursue a professional baseball career and then attempt to own his own business. Person with the greatest influence on his athletic career is his father who always pushed him and took him to practice whenever he wanted to. Hobbies and interests include playing Xbox and watching TV. Favorite movies include Gladiator and Friday Night Lights. Favorite TV shows are Blue Mountain State, Prison Break and Game of Thrones. Favorite athletes are Peyton Manning and Tim Duncan. Favorite cereal is Frosted Flakes. Favorite candy bar is Crunch. Favorite foods are chicken parmesan, filet mignon and stuffed pizza. Favorite teams are the Chicago Cubs, Bulls, Blackhawks and Bears. Favorite restaurants are Texas de Brazil and Giordano's. If he could have dinner with three people, he would invite Peyton Manning, Will Ferrell and Alex Moran.
