2009: Spent the summer as a bullpen catcher for the USA (Collegiate) Baseball Team working all of the games in the United States. Played in two games while serving as the Cards' primary bullpen catcher. Got his first action of the season in a pinch-hitting role against Milwaukee on March 6 in Louisville. Named to AD Honor Roll and a BIG EAST Academic All-Star.
2008: Was plunked in the dome on the first pitch of his first career plate appearance in win over EKU on March 25. Made his college debut in the win over Xavier on March 11, catching the final inning and recording three putouts.
2007: Did not see game action.
High School: Lettered twice each in baseball and basketball. Played the corner infield positions and caught as the Hawks finished second in the district in baseball. Captained his senior year on the hardcourt. Earned two letters in basketball. Played in the 2004 Big League World Series for the US South team, finishing fifth. Attended the same high school as Mets All-Star David Wright.
Personal: Born 4/16/87 to Steven and Wendy Haywood in The Ville. Is majoring in sport administration at U of L. Is the middle of three children in his family. When asked what he wants to do after college, he replied "be a successful coach and work in sports marketing." His family has had greatest influence on him. Going to the beach, hanging out with friends and sports are among his hobbies. His favorite movies include Dumb and Dumber. Likes to watch Becker, SportsCenter, Baseball Tonight, Entourage and Sons of Anarchy on TV. His favorite athletes include Bo Jackson and Muhammad Ali. Steak, shrimp, pasta, salads and ice cream are among his favorite foods. Take Five is his favorite candy bar and Cinnamon Toast Crunch is his favorite cereal. He cheers for the Reds, Lions, Red Wings, Bulls and the Louisville Cardinals. He had a mo-hawk in kindergarten. Best athlete he ever faced is Justin Upton, whom he faced from the age of nine through the end of high school. Biggest thrills in sports were going to the 2007 College World Series and winning the 2008 BIG EAST Championship. He could have dinner or play golf with three people, it would be his father and two brothers because he can never get enough time with them.
