High School: Earned four letters in baseball at Tates Creek High School where he played for coach Dom Fucci. Named a 2008 Rawlings Preseason All-American and 2008 Team One/UnderArmour Preseason All-American. Selected to play in 2008 East/West All-Star Game. Had an ERA under 1.00 as a 16-year-old and 17-year-old in summer ball with 105 strikeouts in 93 innings of work. Led Tates Creek to the District Tournament and had a 2.62 ERA as a junior with 50 strikeouts for the Commodores.
Personal: Born Alex Hamilton Blodgett on May 16, 1990 in Lexington, Ky. Son of Paul and Jamie Blodgett. Has one older brother, Stuart. Undecided on a major at U of L. Biggest thrill in sports was throwing a no-hitter when he was 15-years-old. Person with the greatest influence on his athletic career was his dad, who is the reason he started playing baseball. Hobbies and outside interests include basketball, football, poker and hanging out with friends. Favorite movies include Billy Madison and Shooter. Favorite TV shows include Desperate Housewives and Baseball Tonight. Favorite athletes are Roger Clemens and Pete Rose. Favorite foods include Cinnamon Toast Crunch, 3 Musketeers, and bacon and eggs. His favorite restaurant is Red Lobster. Favorite teams are the Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals. He likes all kinds of music. Favorite quote is "If you're scared, get a dog," by former high school coach Dom Fucci. If he could have dinner and play golf with three people, he'd select Nolan Ryan, Brooke Burke and Ron White. Something he enjoys doing that most people don't know is scuba diving. The best athlete he's ever faced is Ben Revere. His uncle Dave Blodgett played baseball at Auburn, while another uncle, Mike Blodgett, played baseball at Kentucky.
