2007: With four senior outfielders in front of him , he saw action in just 34 games, starting three. Played in five postseason games. Scored as a pinch runner in NCAA Regional win over Missouri (6/3). Entered in the bottom of the ninth as a pinch runner at UC, swiped second for his first career stolen base and scored the game-tying run in the series opener(5/17). Scored as a pinch runner against Evansville (5/15). Belted his first career double in win over EKU (5/2). Drove in a run in win at Villanova (3/25). Belted a pinch single in win over Xavier (3/18). Was 1 for 2 in win over ISU (3/9). Hit an RBI single and walked in win over Morehead (2/28). Drove in a pair of runs on a sac fly and his first career hit against SIU (2/18), cutting down a runner at the plate from left field.
High School: Lettered four times in baseball and three in football. Hit .360 with four home runs, 31 runs, 26 RBI and 10 steals his junior season. Batted .471 with six home runs, 40 runs, 37 RBI and 16 steals as a senior, earning All-County honors for the Raiders. Played at the same high school as Cardinal teammate Chris Dominguez . Won the district championship in baseball in 2006 and football in 2004. Was MVP of the `06 baseball team. Played quarterback and safety for the football team and was Defensive Player of the Year.
Personal: Born 9/05/87 to Rafael and Yolanda Pelaez in Miami. Is and only child. Has not decided on a major at U of L. Would like to play pro baseball after college. His father, who has coached him in baseball and football since he was five years old is his greatest influence. His hobbies and interests include watching and coaching Pop Warner football. Godfather I and II are his favorite movies. Likes to watch Entourage on TV. Sean Taylor, who attended his high school, is his favorite athlete. Steak, chicken and Cuban cuisine are his favorite foods. Cheers on the marlins, Dolphins and Heat. Listens to hip hop. Would like to dine with Mickey Mantle. Former Cardinal football player Willie Williams is the best athlete he has ever faced.
